To kick off the World Series...

Here's Cardinals' manager Tony LaRussa, on TO TELL THE TRUTH. When have you ever seen Tony LaRussa and Kitty Carlisle in the same room?

My prediction, by the way -- Texas in 6 and 64 pitching changes.

Here's a Friday question: why do some shows give the same writer a consulting producer and a written by credit in the same episode?

Perhaps Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld will buy the Dodgers, and give you the chance to run an MLB team...

That's 64 pitching chanages per game, right?

I have never seen Tony LaRussa and Kitty Carlisle in the same room. I guess this proves they're not the same person.

Never pick against La Russa in the playoffs and always pick the Twins to win the AL Central - that's the baseball equivalent of being a poker grinder. Cards in 5.

The real Tony LaRussa would switch out Bill Cullen for Dick Van Patten after the 1st round of questioning, then he would send Dave Duncan out to stall & finally, he would replace Rita Moreno with Peggy Cass, thereby turning a half hour game show into a grueling 4 hour marathon.

wv: "ipole" - so many ethinic jokes, so little time...

If Bill Cullen had been on the panel, he would have spotted the fake LaRussas and tripped them up during questioning -- then disqualified himself from voting because he'd seen LaRussa on a baseball card or some such. Fortunately for the contestants, Cullen was busy hosting another show in California at the time.

After clicking on this file...I STILL haven't seen Tony and Kitty in the same room--there's no video!

The Cardinals did win game 1...and 61 percent of the time, that's who takes home all the marbles.

Thanks Ken, I really enjoyed that. The Cards in 7. I see you are staying loyal to the American League is that in order to please the Mariners and keep your job?

I remember seeing this episode when it first aired.
LaRussa had just taken over the WhiteSox job from Don Kessinger, and nobody in town gave him any chance of lasting, because he hadn't been more than a utility man when he was playing.
Once again, I winced when Nipsey Russell tried to trap the players with that night game question.
I'd like to think that, had Nipsey asked that question to the real LaRussa, he'd have gently remeinded him that it was Wrigley Field, where the Cubs played, that didn't have lights back then; Com iskey Park, the home of the Sox, got lights back in the '30s.

Oh ... in case anybody cares, the four WhiteSox managers in two years were, in order, Bob Lemon, Larry Doby, Don Kessinger, and Tony LaRussa.
LaRussa lasted to the end of Bill Veeck's ownership and beyond, despite not getting along very well with Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall, who were doing Sox TV then.
From Chicago ... so long everybody.

I'm a dyed in the wool Cardinal fan and I think your prediction is spot on. Now I'm writing this after Game 2 so I know it's 1-1 right now. But I think that the high the Cards have been on the last six or so weeks is not going to carry them through. Plus I absolutely hate the wild card and I don't want any team (not even the Cardinals) to win the Series if they can't even win a 4 to 6 game division.
